30 Day Primal Challenge

This past year, my boyfriend has been living the primal or paleo lifestyle.  And I spent the past couple months waving all kinds of grains in front of his face.

After seeing how much it changed his life and made him happier, I decided to find out more about primal living for myself. And decided to give it a 30 day shot.

Today marks my first official day living the primal lifestyle.

Wondering what this lifestyle entails?  You can read more about it here.  It's more than just changing the way you eat and the type of physical activity you do.  The ten primal principles cover everything from sleep to sun exposure to stress management.

Throughout the next 30 days, I'll be documenting my experiences going primal.  I thought today I'd start with sharing what my food intake was for the day. Part of the lifestyle entails cutting out all processed foods, grains, sugars  and legumes.  The diet emphasizes the importance of protein and natural fats in a diet.

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled and raw blueberries

Lunch: salad with Salmon on top and balsamic vinaigrette dressing (without high fructose corn syrup!)

Dinner: Moroccan Chicken Casserole (recipe can be found here).  Instead of using rice, a head of cauliflower is to be put through a food processor and the texture actually turns out very similar to rice!

Snack: Almonds

At the end of the first day, I'm not hungry OR craving any grains...hopefully it stays this way!

Have any of you tried to go primal?  How did it work out for you?

  1. This looks so delicious!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!! I'm a new follower who found you through the GFC hop!! :)

  2. Sounds interesting! I wish you the best of luck on this new journey!

  3. I have heard of this diet, but I have not tried it. I did try the raw food diet. I couldn't continue to do it because I lost an excessive amount of weight, and I'm small so losing weight is not something I'm looking to do. I will say I felt wonderful, my concentration and energy were amazing, and I did not get that monthly zit that pops up around PMS time. The recipe looks delicious so I will have to give this a try. I try to eat healthy and organic as much as possible. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

  4. This looks so delicious! I think I could get my husband to do this with me. I think it always helps when you have a friend or your spouse to do it with.

New follower from the blog hop. Hope you can stop by and follow back.

Thanks! Julie from Stlavolady - a cat, a girl, a man and me!

  5. Very nice blog. I am following you now. Please drop by to Carole's Chatter and check it out. You might like my Food on Friday series which focuses on a different ingredient. Last week it was Berries and Currants. This week it is pork. If you like my blog it would be great if you followed me back. Have a good week.

  6. I have never heard of this before, but your meals look so great! Super interested in following along with you on it. Lots of luck! And thanks again for linking up this week! :D

  7. This is awesome! my husband is on it now, trying to join him!

Have a great week ahead! Stop by and say hello!

  8. I need to try this out, too. I've tried low-carb before, but it didn't work for me. It made me feel tired, depressed and gave me a health side effect that wasn't ideal. This, on the other hand, looks like a good idea. I'll definitely plan this out and give it a go :) I'm going to read your other posts on the topic, because I see that it's a lifestyle, not a diet. I love all of your photos and recipes (links). I found your blog on MomsBestNest :) I'm your friend on GFC :)

  9. You've inspired me. I NEED to do this.
I love cauliflower as rice. Have you ever had it as mashed potatoes too? Sooooooo good! I'm lovin' your blog!

  10. Just visiting from the Friday Chaos blog hop. I did the clean program a few times this year, it seems to be the same as what you are doing . The benefits were amazing!! Good Luck!!
